Is it now time to fire Brian Baird?

Dear Brian,

You are my congressional representative...for now. But that doesn't give you the right to tell me what kind of health insurance I can buy. And it doesn't give you the right to put bureaucrats between me and my doctor.

Do you want to know why we the people are so angry at politicians like you? It is very simple. To pass a law is to threaten to enforce it. To enforce a law requires violence, or threats, or confiscation of property, or loss of liberty. So therefore passing a law means threatening enforcement -- threatening violence. The so called health care reform law that you will vote on this week is a threat of violence against me, my family, my neighbors and my doctor.

My wife has multiple sclerosis. Three times a week I inject her with a miracle drug called Rebif. Each shot costs me $200. Each shot is worth every penny I pay, and I pay cash. Twelve years after being diagnosed she can still walk and talk and drive and see.

My wife is on Medicare. Medicare won't pay for Rebif. I don't want Medicare to pay for Rebif. I want the government to give me back all the medicare taxes I already gave you with every pay check for decades now. But you cannot give it back --- you already spent it on waste, fraud and abuse.

Fine. You took my money and broke your promises. But I am willing to forgive you if you will just please stop it. I am an adult. I will buy my own insurance, hire my own doctors. But you just stay out of my way!

There is something you can do for me. For my wife. For everyone who has multiple sclerosis. Somewhere out there are some people with ideas about how to not just slow down the disease, but to stop it cold. Maybe even cure it.

I weep just thinking about it.

It costs a lot of money to find out if some persons idea of how to cure multiple sclerosis will actually work. Most ideas will fail. There are people willing to put up the money and make it happen, even if they risk losing all of the money if the idea does not pan out. Those people are called investors. But right now nobody is investing in curing multiple sclerosis because nobody is stupid enough to invest in the medical industry while Congress is threatening to destroy it.

Here is what you can do to help, Brian. Don't "reform" health care. Reform Congress. Vote no this week.

The American revolution gave us a wonderful thing. Angry people do not need violence or lynch mobs to remove people from power. We just need elections. Like the one you face next year. So while you threaten my well being with laws that get between me and my doctor ... I am merely threatening to hand you a pink slip.

Vote no on that monstrous 1900 page health care bill ... because somewhere there is someone who will cure my wife if you will just get out of the way.

Sincerely,
Willy Mills, Citizen
